Saint John the Baptist German Catholic Church

Saint John the Baptist German Catholic Church was the third church of the painted churches visitation. We almost missed seeing this church. We were driving our route going northwards and I noticed a cluster of houses and business establishments. The church was on the left side of the road and trees were obscuring its view. The church sign was the only thing that betrayed it presence. We hastily made a u-turn and found ourselves at the church parking lot.

I searched the internet and I didn’t find much about Saint John the Baptist German Catholic Church. Most sites’ information only offered its location. There was one website that specifically mentioned it but its link redirected to another church site.

The outside of the church was looking almost similar to Ascension of our Lord Catholic Church. It was small, though tall, old, and immaculately white. There were a few vehicles in the parking lot and music was playing from inside the church.

Stained glass

A mural depicting Saint John the Baptist baptizing Jesus Christ was at the top of the altar. Quite appropriate, I think, since the church was dedicated to this joyous occasion. The contrasting hue highlighted the main altar. I found myself staring at the altar while I was offering my prayer of thanks.

The choir loft at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church at Praha, Texas made quite an impression on me. I turned around to look at the choir loft and saw its colors reflecting from the bright light. There was music playing as the church organist practiced for the coming service. The beauty of the church, the brightness of its colors, and the music created a solemn moment.
