The Flower Dome of Singapore

The Flower Dome:

The Flower Dome of the Gardens by the Bay in Singapore was one of the gardens on an environmentally sustainable reclaimed land. It was housing a wide variety of flowers in a temperature controlled environment. The flowers never stop blooming in this dome.

It was a long but happy stopover:

Our way home required a stopover of close to 24 hours in Singapore. Instead of fretting over our long stopover, we made good use of it by visiting Gardens by the Bay.

The starting point was at the Cloud Forest:

We spent the whole morning browsing around Cloud Forest. The kids had fun running around and enjoying the Avatar-themed environment. As they say, energy spent needs energy replenishment. This reminder was coming from our growling stomachs.

Satay by the Bay:

Satay by the Bay was closer to the bay and a short distance away from the Cloud Forest. The sun was blazing hot at this time of the day. Instead of walking, some opted to ride the rental bikes that were available. It was the young ones who had the most fun riding the bicycles. Instead of a short one-way trip to Satay by the Bay, it became several round trips with loads of laughter along the way! There was a wide choice of food available at Satay by the Bay.

Inside the Flower Dome:

The Flower Dome was right next to Cloud Forest. We went walking back to it after enjoying our lunch. It was a good feeling to be back in a cool, controlled environment after spending some time walking under the heat of the scorching sun.

A small orchid display was greeting me once I entered the Flower Dome. I was awe-struck by its beauty and presentation. After the orchid display, there was a wide array of flower displays. Each one was themed according to its geographical origin. The largest collection of orchids was displayed near the center of the dome. This was where I ended up spending the most time. I kept trying to appreciate and photograph each individual orchid flower. I ended up overloading my senses with the number and variety of orchids on display.

I’ll be back:

The exit was one part of the dome for ambivalent feelings. Happy because it was the end of the visit. Sad because one was leaving all the beautiful flowers on display. We were catching a flight home. It was time to leave.
