Skaros Rock

Skaros Rock

Skaros Rock was a promontory on the Santorini coast. It was clearly visible as we were standing from the walking trail of Imerovigli. Its location allowed a vast view of the Aegean sea. It was a fortified garrison in the 13th century. A role that was significant in preventing entry of invading forces. A flourishing town grew around it. The garrison and the town eventually floundered over the years due to loss of its strategic location and natural calamities.

Skaros rock was one of the popular destinations during our travel to Greece. What used to be a fortified garrison in 13th century Santorini has now become a popular tourist destination especially among hikers and photographers. The hiking trail was 0.9 miles long and started at Imerovigli. The degree of difficulty of the hiking trail was rated as moderately difficult.
