Nesting doves

Oh well! We have nesting doves where we least expect it.

It is spring, by the way, and working on the garden plants became more conducive with the warming weather. Removing the dead twigs and replacing the soil in pots were simple enough and it spruced up the scenery. The new plants in the greenhouse made it look green and lively. The flowering plants added to the bright colors.

The mourning doves, as I said, were just hanging around and trying to build a nest. Our presence did not bother them and actually picked spots that were less than ten feet away from us. We did our best to pretend that we didn’t see them and it seemed to work. The nesting bird stayed glued to its spot as we went about doing our backyard work. Its eyes though always seemed to be watching us.

Nest on a pot

We found the nesting doves on the morning after we started sprucing up the backyard – nestled comfortably on top on one of the potted plants in the greenhouse. They picked a spot brilliantly. The greenhouse provided shelter from the weather elements. It also hid them away from the searching eyes of predators. So far, two white eggs are incubating. We should be expecting hungry, noisy squabs in two weeks.
