Isle of Palms

Isle of Palms is located on the southeast corner of South Carolina. It faces the Atlantic ocean. This was my first time to actually dip my toes in the waters of the Atlantic ocean. Our original plan was to go to Myrtle beach but, for some unrecalled reason, we diverted to a more southernly location.

Bird, people, and water

From the mountains to the sea! That was what we did. We had our fill of visiting the Great Smoky Mountain National Park (though we could have done some more!). Laurel Falls, Cades Cove, and several other locations at the park were great places but we know that there were more to see.

The drive was short getting to the Isle of Palms. We drove over the long bridge along highway 517 and saw rows of well kept beach houses. Somehow, I still have in my naive mind that I will be seeing the open ocean from the roadside. I guess an old picture from the 1960s stuck to my mind. My curiosity had me driving down Ocean Boulevard and all I saw were the rows of well kept beach houses. The only real easy access to the shoreline was through the paid parking lot!

We were early enough at the beach that we were able to stake a good spot. The people were far in between and I was able to walk my mile along the shoreline to enjoy the sight and surf. It didn’t take long for the people to slowly filter in but we had enough time to enjoy. With the sun becoming more fierce and the humidity gradually increasing, we decided that it was time to head back and file away the memories in our minds.
