Antelope Canyon

Antelope Canyon was just a nine minute drive outside the city of Page, Arizona. There were two canyon tours – the upper and the lower. Different companies were providing the guided tours to each site. They were requiring prior reservation and strictly enforcing mask use for Covid19 prevention. Our tour took us to the upper Antelope Canyon in the morning and the lower Antelope Canyon in the afternoon.

Climb down into the canyon.

My mind was imagining what I was going to see as we approached the upper canyon tour. The photographs that I saw in the internet were all amazing. It was surprising to see the entrance was a break on the wall of the gorge. I was expecting to see something similar to a cave opening. A group of people were standing outside the entrance for the start of their tour. The lower canyon was different as it required climbing down steep flights of stairs.

writings on the rock

The writings on the wall was the first thing that our guide showed us. It was looking more like primitive drawings.

The stone formations were of different geometric patterns. It made me wonder what shaped the formations. Our guide, during the tour, were telling us that flooding occurs regularly in the canyon. It was the water that was carving out the formations! So much like how the Grand Canyon was formed.

Fascinating, mesmerizing, and head-spinning would be my description of the canyon tour. Photograph depiction, according to my experience, are more glamorous than the actual site. This place was different! The site held me spell-bound and awe-struck by its beauty!
