DIY project deck and pergola

Three months had passed since we finished our DIY project.  So far, so good! Since then, we have added quite a few modifications to the basic structure. Apparently, doing a good job, contrary to expectation, provided enough motivation to keep us going.

Ideas are good but it has to be backed up by sound planning. Pinterest provided a lot of help on how to do most of the modifications. The DIY project in Pinterest not only provide ideas but also step-by-step guidance on the procedure.

With enough confidence gained from doing the pavers, we decided to add pavers on the other side of the deck. We decided to do the other side for symmetry. However, without our handyman, the DIY project became more complicated and laborious. We somehow made it through and the uneven, crooked surface didn’t look so bad at all.

Our untrained eyes were enough to see that the structure was not really stable and seemed wobbly. We decided to add more posts and a trellis on the front and back side. We thought it was a good idea. It can serve as facade or as a structure to hang plants. If confidence and satisfaction can be stored in a box, we certainly were filling that box slowly and steadily.

In an instant, the DIY project changed its appearance just by the addition of plants! Mosquito repelling plants and herbs were added. A few Junipers were also added in big planter boxes for accent. The biggest plus factor – we now use the herbs to add flavor and scent to our home cooking!
