The sun was barely peeking over the horizon with a cool morning breeze. It was an agreeable day with a weather forecast of a warm, partly cloudy day. The mountain bike was in the shack. It was looking like it was begging for a scenic biking ride to loosen up its crank and chain. I was just happy to oblige.
The Scenic Trail.
I found myself at the trailhead in no time. There was a concrete pavement at the start of the trail that abruptly transitioned to a flat, gravel road. The trees on the left side of the route were partially concealing the lake. Distant rumbles of motor vehicles were coming from the right side of the trail. The trail was looking scenic enough for a flat, gravel road. Perfect for scenic biking!
This gravel trail was different from the mountain biking trail that we did a week or two ago. It was wide, flat, and open. There were a few brisk walkers, dog walkers, and some slow strollers. The fast riders whizzed by me and nary gave me a look, absorbed in their own scenic biking adventures.
It was good to keep up the pace
The burning sensation was building up in my thighs and legs as I navigated the barely perceptible rise in elevation. I kept the pace steady and worked the gears to keep effort at a minimum. The steady exercise pace gradually loosened up my muscles and joints. I picked spots that caught my attention as my waypoints. I caught my breath, relieved the burning sensation, and took photographs of my scenic biking experience.
A Scenic halfway point
The clearing was the end of the gravel trail. It was also the halfway point of the trail. The bench at the edge of the clearing made for a good resting area. It was fun watching the Mandarin Honeysuckle with its orange flowers that was growing near the bench.
The return trip to the starting point felt much quicker with this scenic biking ride. It felt good to complete the ride.
