Puerta Maya (Mayan door), was the entry point to our one day in Cozumel tour in the Island of Cozumel, Mexico. This was where the cruise ship, Carnival Dream, docked and unloaded us. Our only day to be on land during our four day Caribbean cruise. I was looking at the paved pathways of the outdoor mall and realized later on that it resembled the ruins of San Gervasio. I wonder if the roads looked similar during its heyday.
The view of the Caribbean sea was calm and peaceful. Our tour guide, Nico, brought us to this place right before the end of our day tour. I couldn’t pinpoint the exact location anymore but I’m sure that it was on the southeast side of the island. The place was a cluster of small local souvenir shops selling trinkets and seashell ornaments. Being on this place, at this time, felt like drinking an elixir that calmed the body and the spirit after a hectic day of walking the Mayan ruins.
