My snowmageddon 2021

Winter seasons has always been mild where I live. Snow precipitation has always been minimal. It is one of the reasons why I like living here. At times, mother nature seems to throw a fit and remind me that real winter still happens here. This was my snowmageddon 2021.

Change was almost imperceptible. It started as a cold but sunny day. The only hint that the weather was about to change was the forecast. By late night, snow flurries has turned to fluffs and rapidly covering the ground.

Snow was covering most surfaces the next morning. It reminded me of my travel through New Mexico when I encountered white out condition while driving. Snowmageddon, a term popularized in the mid to late 2000s, referred to the sensationalization of a snowstorm hence the reference to my snowmageddon 2021.

Driving condition was not bad since there was mostly snow on the road and not ice. Still, I was practicing an abundance of precaution when driving. As most people told me, “It shouldn’t be the road condition that I should be concerned. Rather, I should be concerned of the reckless driver on the road”.

Weather changes here has been known to be notoriously and famously fickle. Some people brag that they get to experience the four seasons in one day! So, after three days of dealing with a continuously cold and snowy weather, the bright sunny sky of the fourth day started to melt the snow!

It’s a different discussion when we talk about the power outages and loss of water supply that came with the cold weather. Preventing the water pipes from freezing in the morning required constant vigilance. Mitigating the loss of heat in the house from power outages was only possible by firing up the gas fireplace!
