Island Hopping at Siargao

The escapade to Siargao continues. Today’s activity was island hopping at Siargao. Travel Essentials Siargao was our tour company. We were touring three islands: Naked Island, Daku Island, and Guyam Island. Our tour guide was at Siargao Inn bright and early. He was cheerful and ready to start the day with us. Outside, the van was getting ready to load us up and start heading for the port.

Naked Island

Naked Island

Naked Island was the first stop. It was visible at the distant horizon like a strip of sand on top of the ocean. Even from a distance, several boats were visibly surrounding and anchored around it. People were roaming on the island. The island was bare of vegetation. It was becoming clear as we got closer that the island was a sandbar. It took us a while for the boat captain to find a safe landing spot. The wind was picking up and the waves were tossing wildly.

Daku Island

Daku Island

It was impressive how the boat captains were taking turns on landing on the sandbar. Obviously, they were doing everything they can to keep the tourists safe. I also overheard that most boat captains and crew were local fishermen who were augmenting their income by chartering their boats to the travel companies.

I was calling Daku Island as the “party island”, the second island. It was definitely bigger that Naked Island, had a lot of vegetations, and there were several huts lined up and ready to take us in. There were more space for the boats to land. That day, the wind and surf was visibly stronger and wilder. The boat captains were expertly maneuvering their boats to a safe location and anchoring it in deeper water.

Island hopping boodle food

Lunch was a serving of food in kamayan fashion. Otherwise known as a boodle fight. A resurgence of a popular way of serving food especially in large informal gatherings.

Guyam Island

Guyam Island

The third island hopping activity was Guyam Island. I wasn’t getting off the boat this time. It was clearly for several reasons. The water was clear, gorgeous, and warm. I had a fascinating island in front of me. The wind was lulling me to sleep. I did hear and see everybody else laughing, yelling, and having a very good time on the water and on the island. Man, what a good time!

    • I would say Daku Island was my favorite. It was the biggest and had the “boodle fight” food.
