High school senior year

High school senior year is the time when children will ultimately become young adults.  The year when all the folly and fun will turn into serious business of building a career or fulfilling a dream.  Some will follow footsteps that were laid by others before them while some will blaze a trail that only they can see.

We look at our children and we worry that they will not be up to the task of taking care of themselves.  Let us not forget that we spent our lifetime teaching them to do the right thing all the time.  In the end, they will see the fruit of their labors.  They will remember what we told them and what we tried to impart to them.

I was given the chance to take the portraits of these young people.  I feel like a great honor was bestowed on me, like a great trust was granted to me, and I feel the obligation to create a wonderful rendering of their image.

I can see myself in them.  At the age when I was full of hope, when I was full of doubt, when I was dreaming of what I wanted to be, when I didn’t know if I will be what I wanted to be.  I remember it clearly when I sat and thought about what I will be doing.  I didn’t have the faintest idea.  I was blurting out words, of plans, but really, I didn’t know, I didn’t know.

I hope that I am wiser now.  Wise enough to guide them through the path that they want to follow.  I hope that I can be trusted.  Trusted enough that they will seek my counsel in the future if they feel that they have reached a crossroad in their life and need a guiding hand.
