Blazing hot July 2018 brought at least 10 straight days of 100 degree Fahrenheit temperature (37 degree Celsius). This did not even count the intermittent 100 degree Fahrenheit days in between. It halted all of my outdoor activities and cooped me inside the house whenever I’m not working. The last time I braved the summer heat, I almost had a heatstroke.
August was more gentle as it did not have a lot of 100 degree Fahrenheit days. The weekend that I went out, it was still 102 degree Fahrenheit but it did not feel as blazing hot as the other days.
It’s amazing how people will grab the first opportunity to be outdoors. We came to this place because we heard that it has a good view of the sunset. We also heard of the patio and balcony tables that afforded a decent, comfortable, and well-priced meal. It was with great surprise that we were at the back of the line and required a two-hour wait to be seated! Even the bar had a long, winding line just to get a bottle of beer!
The view was great with the sun setting at the horizon! The glow of the sun went from pale yellow to fiery orange in a matter of minutes. The silhouette of the boats in the water and the buildings at the far hillside became pronounced in contrast as it got darker.
We followed the setting of the sun like devout sun-worshippers! Each phase of the sunset was framed and photographed in sequence.
I always imagined watching the sunset at some isolated place. Definitely, I wasn’t alone and isolated in this experience. Countless other people were beside me trying to gain the same experience.
One lady was watching me taking my photographs. She said, “I so want to have my own camera!” She was referring to the DSLR that I was holding while she had only a phone camera. We had a short conversation on how to take better photographs using her phone camera. I also showed her a post processing application that she can use in her phone for a better photograph. She was so excited to learn something new.
The afternoon ended with the sun dipping below the horizon. A bell was rung and the sun spectators applauded!
