The Three Sisters of the Blue Mountains

Today, we continue traveling around Australia. We continue as we explore parts of New South Wales.

The Blue Mountains

A mountain range located in New South Wales, Australia.  We were heading specifically heading to Katoomba to see the tourist attractions. The Three Sisters was one of the rock formations that was unique in the area. We hustled to get on board the train. There was a large group of students on board with us. We spoke with a few of them. They were young and vibrant international student coming from the USA, India, and Germany.  They were planning to see the different heritage sites today since they will be back to school soon.

Echo Point

A good vantage point for viewing valley below and the Blue Mountain range.  The three sisters rock formation was prominent at this viewing point. The rock formation was looking just like any other formation. The legend attached to it made it fascinating. There were several versions to the legend. It spoke of three sisters escaping from their tormentor.

The Mining Area

The mining area was another tourist attraction. It was located in the valley. The mine entrance can be reached by a short walk. A statue of a miner was dedicated to remind how life was around here.  Katoomba gradually started developing from the small town and mining area.  Operation for mining has long ceased in this tourist destination.

Railroad cars can be seen further down the valley trail.  The same ones that used to transport ores up the mountain for processing at another site.  Tourists now ride the rail cars and it offered a different kind of thrill.  Riding through a short dark tunnel with a very steep angle makes the butterflies flutter in the stomach.  The brief breathtaking and amazing panoramic view of the valley below was amazing.
