Exploring the Star Mine suspension bridge

We  spent part of the day exploring the star mine suspension bridge.  A foot bridge that was used by coal miners to transport men and coal.   Coal reached the Tipple side of the Red Deer river using this transport system.  It was in full use until the 1950’s when the coal mines closed.  The bridge was rebuilt and maintained to celebrate the coal mining history of Drumheller.

Padlocks have started to crowd the mesh links of the bridge.  The practice of showing one’s love and devotion by locking it to a structure has made its way here.  I hope there will not be more of these padlocks as it can add weigh to the bridge and may it cause it to come apart.  The ring on the fourth finger should suffice.
