A concert of Filipino artists

This is a short travel for me since we only had to drive around 5 miles to the next city.  The venue was Lava Cantina at The Colony, Texas and this concert featured a well-known Filipino-American artist, Bamboo Manalac.

The venue was already filling up with people by the time that I got there by late afternoon.  Of course, most were Filipino-American, eager to hear the artist perform, and mostly contemporary during the artist’s height of popularity. There were a lot of familiar faces coming from the local Filipino-American community.   I do see a lot of new faces though and I assume that they are coming from neighboring counties or cities – places where I don’t go much.

The opening acts did a good job of preparing the crowd for the main performance.  Kudos to the Genus band with lead singer, Dennis Uayan.  I remember Den Racho, lead guitarist, when I first met him back in Lubbock, Texas.  My only wish was that they could have performed more songs during the event.

I am not a big follower of song competition so I did not recognize Elha Mae Nympha when she took the stage.  I asked and found out that she won the second season of the The Voice Kids in 2015 and she has been performing alongside other artists.  She was impressive with her voice.

Bamboo really rocked the house and delivered.  He performed one song after another and he had mastery of each one.  Well, I guess he wouldn’t reach his position right now if he were not good!  I was a bit too old during the height of his popularity with Rivermaya band hence I did not follow it.  I became acquainted with his songs through my current group of friends and hearing it from the master made it more special.

There were a lot of happy faces during the event.  There were a lot of familiar faces and new faces.  I saw a lot who I haven’t seen for a while now and it was good to renew acquaintances.  I also met new friends that I am happy to be acquainted with and I hope to see them again.
